Luxury Brand Meets Detroit Grit: The House of Karma Story

Luxury Brand Meets Detroit Grit: The House of Karma Story

Luxury brand meets Detroit grit — the House of Karma story

People ask me how a Detroit kid ended up working on brands like SLS Hotels, W Resorts, and Sephora — and then came back home to build a creative agency in the city that raised him. The answer is simple: Detroit taught me grit. The luxury world taught me standards. House of Karma is where those two worlds meet.

Key takeaway: World-class branding shouldn't be reserved for global luxury brands. Detroit businesses deserve the same level of strategic thinking, design quality, and connected growth systems.

    From Detroit to Luxury Hospitality

My career started in Detroit, but it took me across the world. I worked on brand experiences for SLS Hotels — where every detail, from the lobby scent to the typography on the room key, was designed to create a feeling. I worked with W Resorts, where the brand wasn't just a logo on a building — it was an entire lifestyle ecosystem. I worked with Sephora, where retail design and digital experience had to work together seamlessly.

I also worked with Patrick Ta, one of the most influential makeup artists in the beauty industry, on brand and digital experiences. Each of these projects taught me something: great brands are systems, not logos. They're consistent across every touchpoint. They tell a story before you read a single word.

Why I Came Back to Detroit

Detroit is a city that understands reinvention. We've been counted out, rebuilt, and reimagined more times than I can count. When I decided to start House of Karma, there was never a question about where it would be. Detroit businesses were being underserved by agencies that either didn't understand strategy or didn't understand design — rarely both. I saw an opportunity to bring the standards I'd learned in luxury hospitality and global retail to the businesses in my own backyard.

    Building the Ecosystem

House of Karma started as a creative agency. But I quickly realized that branding and web design alone weren't enough. Businesses needed the infrastructure behind the brand — CRM systems, automation, dashboards, AI agents. So I partnered with Studio Escrow to build the software layer.

I also founded Karma by Design — a luxury brand design studio that serves high-end e-commerce and fashion clients. Together, these three companies form an ecosystem: House of Karma handles brand, web, marketing, and growth strategy. Karma by Design handles luxury brand design. Studio Escrow handles CRM, software, automation, and HIPAA-compliant infrastructure.

What This Means for Detroit Businesses

When you hire House of Karma, you're not just getting a Detroit web designer. You're getting a team that has worked on global luxury brands and applies those same principles to your business. You're getting brand strategy, website design, SEO, advertising, and CRM automation — all connected under one strategy.

We've applied this to dozens of Detroit businesses — from restaurants to medical practices to real estate firms. The approach is the same whether the budget is $10,000 or $100,000: strategy first, design second, systems third.

The Future of House of Karma

We're expanding. We're building HIPAA-compliant medical marketing systems with Studio Escrow. We're developing AI agents that handle lead qualification and scheduling. We're creating workflow automations that save businesses hundreds of hours per month. And we're doing it all from Detroit.

The goal has never changed: bring world-class branding and connected growth systems to businesses that deserve them — regardless of size or industry. That's the House of Karma story. Follow along on Instagram @moedeuce.
